Nigerian street-pop guru Bella Shmurda recently dropped his new debut album ‘Hypertension’ on Wednesday, 26th October 2022, in which he repeatedly used the word ‘Tension’.
The music star has recently appeared on the latest episode of Apple Music Africa Now Radio where he talks about the album with host Dada Boy Ehiz. He previously released two Eps which he titled ‘High Tension’ and ‘High Tension II’ and when Dada Boy Ehiz questioned him concerning the frequent use and meaning of the word ‘Tension’ in relation to his music, the street-pop sensation responded that this is because his music is music just like himself as a tension.

“Tension is tension, Bella Shmurda is the tension. My sound is the tension, anything good is the tension so I just classify myself as a tension, as a problem to the industry. You can’t get me off-guard, you understand? And the album is off-guard”.
Moreover, Bella has been since teasing the debut album ‘Hypertension’ for a while. This is Bella’s own way of saying he is operating at his highest form. The album features a project with Omah Lay titled ‘Philo’, where he delivered a short yet excellent verse.
Yet again, ‘Hypertension’ has proven that Bella has matured as an artist, especially with the production. Thematically, the recent album feels more like a playlist that Bella uses to display his skills.
“Just expect pure Bella Shmurda, first of all, and expect something different. It’s not the usual Bella Shmurda like Bella Shmurda just going off whatever he’s known for. Just expect joy, hapiness and every good thing that comes with it.”
In summary, the new album is Bella’s attempt to showcasing that he’s much better artist while captivating himself to his fans and also winning over new ones.
