Nigerian R&B singer and songwriter, Tems is set to be awarded an RIAA Gold Certification for her old but gold single ‘Free Mind’.
On Wednesday, 26th October 2022 via their Twitter account, chart news platform @Chartdata reported that Tems’ ‘Freemind’ is now eligible for a Gold Certification after haven sold 500,000 copies in the United States.

Furthermore, the certification is recorded as Tems’ first solo certification after receiving platinum plaques for Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ and Future’s ‘Wait For U’. The single which was released in 2020 as one of the leading singles on the singer’s ‘If Orange Was A Place’ EP, has excellently skyrocketed in the United States and has spent over 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and is starred at Number 46.

In addition to this, Tems joins Ckay, Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid as some of the leading Afrobeats artists to receive solo RIAA certifications.
More so, Davido’s ‘Fall’ and Burna Boy’s ‘YE’ have been awarded gold certifications by the RIAA, whereas, Ckay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ and Wizkid’s ‘Essence’ has been certified X2 platinum for the stated singles respectively.
As a result of this, the Alte singer, and songwriter becomes the first Nigerian female singer to receive a Gold Certification for a solo single and she steady sets up the pace with hit singles back to back, leaving others to contend with this degree.
