Empawa Africa is excited to announce the release of the music video for Tekno’s single “Wayo”. The video, directed by the acclaimed Dammy Twitch, provides a vibrant and genuine depiction of love set against the backdrop of the bustling city of Lagos.
“Wayo” is driven by infectious percussion, hypnotic synths, and lush guitar arrangements, and held together by Tekno’s enchanting vocal performance and captivating storytelling. “Wayo” — which means to “scam” or deceive someone in Nigerian slang — sees Tekno reassuring his lover of his pure intentions and undying devotion to her.
The video tells a tale of love and resilience, effectively bringing to life the essence of both the song and the city. The storyline follows a couple, brilliantly portrayed by Tekno and Nollywood’s Uzoamaka Aniunoh, as they navigate the highs and lows of their relationship within the dynamic streets and dating culture of Lagos. The narrative underscores the themes of love, forgiveness, and victory.
SHUGAVYBZ’s masterful sound production enriches the narrative, harmonizing perfectly with the visuals. The term ‘Wayo’ implies a scam in Nigerian slang, but Tekno uses it to assure his lover of his sincere devotion in his song, stating “I no come do wayo”.
The music video, directed by Forbes 30 Under 30 filmmaker Dammy Twitch, who has also worked with the likes of Davido, Yung Bleu, and DaBaby, brings to life a heartfelt narrative of love, forgiveness and resilience demonstrating how Tekno and his lover overcome their relationship challenges.
The glorious new offering also comes with a cinematic music video set against the vibrant city of Lagos, and starring Tekno and Nollywood sensation Uzoamaka Aniunoh as a couple navigating the highs and lows of their relationship.
